Dear All
It is my pleasure to welcome with enthusiasm all of our students who are exploring this catalogue to plan their program of study, or interested in changing major, and to those who are pursuing these pages to learn more about LIU.
The school of Arts and Sciences provides its students with an educational background that enhances critical and creative thinking both scholarly and artistically. The pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, intellectual freedom, artistic expression, and enhancement of cultural and spiritual lives of individuals is our first priority. This is done by encouraging analytical and creative thinking, and by providing a friendly environment where students feel at ease following their dreams and communicating with their instructors.
The school of Arts and Sciences consists of even departments (Biological and Chemical Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Nutrition and Food Sciences, Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Fine Arts and Design, and Communication Arts), with seventeen different majors. There are advisors for each program whose ultimate goal is to make sure to assist students if any help is needed. We are here to help you make the right choices in line with your future plans and ambitions. Our ultimate goal is to make sure that you receive priceless quality education while providing a rich and friendly atmosphere where the relationships you make are unforgettable. We also aim to foster and maintain quality academic programs that keep pace with growing technological advances and educational methods. In the coming years, parts of this catalogue will be updated to stay in touch with our aspiration. New majors might open and other interesting and challenging courses will be offered.
We will be pleased if you choose to join our university in which education, learning, culture, and knowledge are celebrated.
We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely yours,
Tarek Harb, Ph.D.

The school of engineering lays out the foundation of professional careers. Once decided to join the school of engineering you had made the right pronouncement that will equip you with sophisticated technical and communications skills that make you exceptional to the market place.
LIU engineering graduates work in a wide variety of industries located throughout the world; namely, in the Gulf States. Many of our graduates go on the professional and graduate schools. They are well known for their exceptional ability to communicate clearly with others, their capability to work through difficult problems, and their ability to solve problems and design creatively. Flexibility is a word often used by employers to describe our graduates.
Even though, the School of Engineering prepares students to serve the rapidly changing demands of a new century and our undergraduate degrees provide breadth and depth; the Bachelor degree graduates are encouraged to join the Master Programs at LIU which enhance the knowledge of our master graduates and prepare them to be equipped to deal with technical topics and with the challenges of practice in the future.
The school of engineering promotes the master graduates to keep in touch with our professors who bring insight and wisdom from many different perspectives – practical experience, research, and the roles of teachers and parents. It is hoped that through cooperation with the school our master graduates are provided opportunities for practical work experience, international study and community.

The Pharmacy profession has passed through many changes throughout history; from the traditional use of plants and other spiritual remedies to the highly advanced application of biotechnology and gene therapy. This great development in drug investigation and pharmaceutical exploration set new challenges for pharmacists to deal with and to make use of.
Over the past few years we worked very hard to establish a program which enables our graduates to become new asset in the healthcare system. The school is staffed with motivated and dedicated instructors who employ their knowledge and experience to facilitate the learning process and to stimulate students' interest and attention toward the program. Classrooms and laboratories are equipped with new and advanced equipments which support and serve the learning procedure.
And with the fact that our students come from different socioeconomic backgrounds and are highly motivated to pioneer and to serve their societies, this made our school acknowledged by public and private institutions and our graduates are highly recognized by national and international pharmaceutical companies. It is worth to mention as well that our graduates' performance in the national colloquium exam was outstanding with 100% passing rate and with highest scores attained.
